In 2005, Isabel Rojas and Régulo Ureña, a small family, founded Café Rivense del Chirripó. They settled in a small area called Brunca in the southern part of Costa Rica, within the Chirripó region. In 2019, Isabel achieved 5th place, and Régulo secured 20th place with their microlot in the Cup of Excellence, making it the first time a micro lot from the Chirripó region of Costa Rica ranked in the top ten.
The farm is managed sustainably, focusing on reducing the carbon footprint on the environment. This includes appropriate shade management to provide organic matter for the soil and keep the coffee trees fresh; using fertilizers based on annual soil analysis; employing herbicides in specific plots with strong weeds; and all water sources are protected and available throughout the farm.
